The Middle Georgia Regional Plan is
an important step in the development of an orderly, ongoing process of
coordinated planning at the local, regional, and state level in Georgia.
The Middle Georgia Regional Plan, created in 1996, was intended to
develop and promote the essential public interests of the state and its
citizens. By developing regional policies on regionally significant
issues, the Regional Plan was developed to:
• point out mutually beneficial opportunities for
inter-governmental cooperation at the local level;
• help to mitigate inter-governmental conflicts at the local level;
• implement regional policies to foster desired outcomes on regionally
significant issues;
• serve as a guide to local planning;
• advocate for local and regional needs in the allocation of state and
federal funding; and
• assist local governments and the RDC in their interactions with
state and federal agencies.
The RDC is currently underway with the update process
for the 1996 Regional Plan. This site is intended to provide
information regarding the progress of this update process. The
1996 Regional plan is available for download or online viewing.
